Sherlock Holmes and the case of the public domain
Dave Kellet in his Sheldon webcomic is celebrating the long-overdue arrival of Sherlock Holmes into the public domain. Can Mr. Holmes survive in the world of Apple & Google? BBC and Benedict Cumberbatch are betting yes.

... can hear you scream
Why am I posting this particular Sheldon comic by Dave Kellet.in the Thursday animated map slot? Because of this short and fascinating TED video by Derek Sivers:

Somebody tell Nebraska
Nebraska needs an intervention in this Sheldon webcomic by Dave Kellet. It's got a reference to secession that is prescient given a recent rash of sore loser requests for secession on the White House petitions page.

Olympics round-up?
Given that this episode of the Sheldon webcomic by Dave Kellet went up just a few days after the closing Olympic ceremonies I'm assuming it's a loose reference to the Olympics.

Migration two-fer
Last week my wife found this Family Circus by Jeff and Bill Keane in the newspaper that my visiting Father-in-law had been reading. Why a migration joke would run in July is beyond me.
...But while we're at it we'll make it a two-fer because I recently found this old Sheldon webcomic by Dave Kellet from 2002 that also mentions migration:

Sheldon two-fer (three-fer)
Last week's two-fer was from Dave Kellet's Drive webcomic. This week's is from his Sheldon webcomic. I've only posted a couple items from Sheldon in the past, but it's truly great stuff that y'all will love. And the super swell thing is that this is the debut of Nebraska in our ongoing states-that-have-been-referenced-in-map-related-comics series, bringing our total to 19! Please submit comics about your state so we can get all 50. (and I'll gladly accept submissions of non-state U.S. territories too).

Two-fer Drive
Today's' Two-fer is two installments from Dave Kellett's Drive webcomic. You'.ll probably have to click on these to make them more legible. This is a rather ambitious once-a-week sci-fi comic that was added to Kellet's main Sheldon webcomic which has attained much-deserved success in the fledgling webcomic industry. These two installments are the beginning and end of the part of the story where every ship in the interstellar Earth-based empire have come back to Earth for a Imperial meeting of the ruling family which guards the secret of their power: "The ring" which drives all the starships. The sory is intricate and hilarious and well worth following.

Amerigo for the steal
In this episode of the webcomic Sheldon, by Dave Kellet from December of 2008, Arther the Duck and Grandpa mull over the oddity that is the naming of America. The thing is, No matter how bummed Columbus may have been about the naming of the continent, I suspect the Native Americans were rather less happy about things.
And, by the way, here's another webcomic which plays with the naming of Amerigo's America, map comics about the various Americas (North, Central, South), and Bugs Bunny's hilarious take on the Columbus story.

Generational directions
This is The Buckets by Greg Cravens on giving directions. I actually think that the teenager is more likely to give the Mapquest directions and the dad, when he was the teenager's age, would have been more likely than the teen today to give those kinds of clandestine directions. But that'd be confusing and teens do stereotypically go for the subversive route.
By the way, "The Kellets" mentioned is Dave Kellet who does the Sheldon webcomic.

The Knowledge

I can't believe I haven't done a Sheldon
yet. This is truly a magnificent webcomic. Certainly one of the best in the world. It's created by Dave Kellett. It's about a orphaned boy, raised by his grandfather, who became a billionaire by writing some piece of software. Then he uploaded an encyclopedia into a duck. And it's absolutely hilarious. Do go and enjoy!
