There's an MIT spinoff named Mapdwell that has a tool for estimating the solar potential of every home in a community: Article.

Another Bond Villain-level project, this time from Japan: Build a band of solar panels 400 km wide around the moon's equator and beam the power back to Earth.  Not exactly villainous... but not exactly practical either.

I want my solar parity

John Farrell over at Energy Self-Reliant States made this interactive and animated map mash-up that shows " which major metropolitan areas can beat grid prices with local solar first, and how quickly unsubsidized solar could take over America's major metropolitan areas."
