In the marketing blitz that is the run-up to the next Muppets movie there's an ad that shows how kermit's calmness and Lipton Tea helps him navigate the Animalistic chaos that is New York City. Here's the 10-second bit where he helps some tourists arguing over a map:

I quite like this t-shirt design from Busted Tees and I think the time is soon approaching when those restrictions will wither away. The resulting land-grab and/or development explosion will likely be rather tumultuous... although it could very well be that all that will happen before the U.S. gets around to ending those restrictions. That could mean a boatload of missed opportunities for U.S. real estate interests, but it could be better for Cuba.

Restraining map of the stars

We haven't done a "Map of the Stars" gag in a while.  Here's one from Non Sequitur by Wiley Miller.  Are there "Apps of the Stars"? Yes, of course there are (not to be confused with apps for stargazing).  Have "Apps of the Stars" put the "Maps of the Stars" vendors out of business?  I dunno.  Economics thesis anyone?

Too bad for Norfolk

I'm not sure what's so bad about Norfolk but cartoonist Clive Goddard is obviously thoroughly unimpressed.  This, by the way, is referencing the county in England, not the Norfolk in Virginia, or Massachusetts, or Connecticut, or Nebraska, or New York, or Canada, or  New Zealand, or Australia... not that any of them is particularly more interesting than the others... at least I wouldn't know, having not visited any of them myself..

Stars' clothes

Mike Peters gives us another "map to the stars" gag in this Mother Goose & Grimm. Here's one that I posted previously. I gotta say, this is the only sort of "map to the stars" I'd ever buy.

And, if you're at all interested, here's an article explaining the recent dust up about the changes in astrological signs. I missed out on being one of the new Ophiuchus by just a day, which is kind of a bummer. Not that it matters.  I was happy enough being a Sagittarius. But now it appears that I'm a Scorpio, which sucks 'cause my older brother's a Scorpio and, while I love him, I don't know that I wanna be like him... But it's all OK 'cause now he's a Libra.

No map for you!

This is a photo from Engrish.com of some directions by somebody who didn't want to go through the trouble of making a map.  I hope the tourist information center doesn't get lost when it follows these directions.  Maybe next time they will put a map there.

NASDAQ, not NASCAR

Dan Reynolds gives us this map-related cartoon about a couple of lost NASCAR fans ending up at NASDAQ headquarters.  I suppose both have to do with stock... or stock cars?  By the way, there is actually a globe on the store next to the NASDAQ building:

New York travel

A print ad, archived at AdClassix, from 1954 for tourism in New York State. This pre-dates the iconic "I *heart* NY" ad campaign by some 20 years.  

Crowded Cape

This was one of The New Yorker's "Caption Contest" winners from July of 2008 where the readers submit captions for cartoons regular cartoonists submit.  This one was particularly appropriate for this blog's theme. The artist is Mick Stevens.

Not here
