Ben Sack's city

This is artist Ben Sack drawing a fantastical bird's-eye-view cityscape of overwhelming detail all set to Camille Saint-Saëns' orchestration of Danse Macabre:

Judgmental maps

We've posted the stereotypes maps.  here's the Judgmental maps full of more unpleasentness towards one's urban neighbors.  Is this funny or simply hateful? Or both?

Interactive social media world

But what would social networks look like if you could see the cliques and groupings? This is what visual artist Alex Dragulescu has attempted to show with Ekisto--an interactive visualization of the communities behind StackOverflow, Github, and Friendfeed.

The interface is Google-Earth-ish and looks like cities.  Give it a spin:

Maps in Calvin & Hobbes 05: Ant-pathy

One of my geology professors in college had a cartoon on their door showing some kids with an ant farm shaking it up and laughing about how the silly ants would simply rebuild their tunnels exactly the same way after every time the kids did this.  Then an earthquake hits, and the ants are shown to be chuckling at the sudden distress of the humans.  Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes here takes a different tack on the same theme.

Stinky animated Thursday

This animation shows gas leaks under U.S. cities.  Stinky (except natural gas itself has no odor, they just add a smell so people will notice leaks.  Methane is a different matter).

Circus in Chitown

Let's do tame with a Family Circus from 2006 by Jeff and Bill Keane. Of course we now know that neither Mrs. O'Leary nor her cow had anything at all to do with starting that fire.Way to perpetuate discriminatory stereotypes you ovoid-headed kids!

The thing that bugs me about this is the copyright laws which obligated the Keanes to have PJ there with the generic "Cubbies" pennant instead of "Cubs" which would have made some kind of sense.  MLB might want to consider laying off the fan art.

Christmas GPS

In his Mother Goose and Grimm comic strip Mike Peters gives us this Christmas and GPS-related comic from last year.  He does a lot of map-elated comics.  He ran another one last week that I'll post it tomorrow... and beg your forgiveness when I do (you'll understand why).

You are not yet

This is another "You are here" gag, this time by a Nick Baker.  This one randomly came up on my list to be the one to post next after yesterday's post, inadvertently continuing the "Not yet" theme.
