North Carolina feels left out
Amanda gives us this one is from the 2008 presidential election with all the states jostling for position to be the first to hold primaries and North Carolina holding back. Given all the incredibly discriminatory, dangerous, and downright stupid things the GOP-dominated North Carolina state legislature is passing these days, it's surprising there aren't a few more North Carolina maps showing up in the editorial pages. 48 down, 2 to go. We're down to just South Dakota and West Virginia in terms of state maps that have been represented in this maps-in-comics blog.

Primarily next two-fer
I was hoping that for today's two-fer I'd have some more cartoon maps of recent/upcoming primary states, but I couldn't find anything new for Nevada, Minnesota, Missouri, or Colorado. If ya got anything then please send it in. In the meantime all I've got are two election-related cartoons:
The first is from Daryl Cagle and is from the 2008 POTUS election season which at least shows an anthropomorphized Nevada... and some other states.... including Michigan ... and even though those are from four years ago, I think I'll still count them towards our tally of states specifically mentioned in our maps-in-comics blog here (now at 33 of 50):
The other one is a shot at Mitt Romney for his Swiss bank accounts by Bill Day. The visual gag is clever enough... but Mitt's hair is never this mussed.
By the way, I am keeping in mind the appearances of country maps in our blog, and after each of the 50 states gets featured on this blog I'll show the list of which countries have and haven't been featured... and we'll see if we can get all of those... although Angora might be tough. But if you find any other nations featured in maps in comics lemme know.

South Carolina epic geography fail
See, I'm not sure if I should post this for Animated Map Thursday, two-fer Tuesday, or Friday Fail (win). But since last week was the primary in South Carolina and I haven't found any new South Carolina-map -themed editorial cartoons (though I didn't look very hard) I figured I'd follow the Tuesday Two-fer theme from the last two weeks and post what might be the most epic geography fail in recent pop culture history. I give unto you the 2007 Miss Teen USA contestant Miss South Carolina: Lauren Caitlin Upton:
Why is this a two-fer? Because there is also a t-shirt at Busted Tees:

Primarily New Hampshire two-fer
There weren't quite as many New Hampshire-map-related editorial cartoons as there were for Iowa. But hey! We're up to 31 states that have been specifically featured in this map-related-comics blog! Only 19 more to go. Should be able to knock out a few more of them this election season.
These first two came from Daryl Cagle. My apologies for that second one. It goes WAY too far.... and suggests that New Hampshire is a very difficult state to anthropomorphize.
This next one is from Bill Day and foreshadows the South Carolina primary:

The coolest of the four Carolinas
This example from Jim Toomey's Sherman's Lagoon strip from November of 2009 makes fun of Sherman's abysmal geographic education... or his abysmal education in general.
It's also the first time South Carolina gets a mention in this blog, so that puts us at a total of 23 states specifically mentioned in the blog.
